It’s been a fantastic stretch on Lake Sakakawea, and the bite is only getting better! Over the past week, we’ve been chasing down walleyes, white bass, and smallmouth bass—and they’re all starting to cooperate just in time for the unofficial kickoff to summer.

🎣 Water temps are climbing steadily, now pushing that magic 60-degree mark in many areas. With the warmer temps, the fish are becoming more active and feeding more consistently throughout the day.
🗺️ Where are we finding them? The walleyes have been a bit scattered, with productive depths ranging anywhere from 5 to 25 feet, depending on the day and weather. Adaptability is key right now—one day we’re fishing shallow rock piles, the next we’re sliding out to deeper points and breaks.
🪱 What’s working? Minnows are still the top producer, but nightcrawlers and leeches are starting to turn fish as well—especially as water temps continue to warm. Jigging and live bait rigs have been the go-to techniques, but don’t be afraid to mix it up.
💥 Bonus bites: We’ve seen a big uptick in white bass and smallmouth bass activity—these fish are a blast to catch and add some excitement between walleye hookups. If you’re looking for action and variety, now’s a great time to hit the water.

☀️ Looking ahead: The weekend weather looks fantastic—mild temps, light winds, and sunshine. That means conditions are prime for some incredible fishing on Lake Sakakawea. If you’ve been waiting to book your trip, this is your sign!
