As the open-water season kicked off, Lake Sakakawea wasted no time showing off! Over the past couple of weeks, the walleye bite has been ON FIRE. Clients with Liebel’s Guide Service were stacking fish fast—limits were coming easy, and bonus white bass added extra fun to the mix. There’s nothing better than a livewell full of fish and memories made with family and friends on the water.
But like any North Dakota angler knows, spring can throw a curveball…
This past week, cooler temps, heavy winds, and steady rain rolled across the lake and temporarily slowed things down. While it’s been a bit tougher out there in these conditions, it’s just a short pause in what’s shaping up to be an incredible fishing season.

🌞 What’s Next?
With warmer weather on the horizon and rising water temps, the bite is expected to rebound quickly—and when it does, it’s going to explode. Post-front walleyes will be aggressive and ready to feed, especially with baitfish activity increasing. If you're thinking about getting on the water this summer, NOW is the time to lock in your dates.
🗓 Our calendar is filling fast, and the best dates always go early!
